Is a Common Cold Study Right for Your Child?

It may seem odd that children would be included in a clinical trial, but it’s actually very important. Why? Children and younger people may require a treatment that is significantly different than what is normally administered to an adult.

As researchers, we can’t be sure that a new therapeutic approach for the common cold is effective in children unless we’ve had a chance to work with younger participants.

We fully understand that the idea of enrolling your child in a clinical trial can be scary. A common question we get is, “How will this study benefit my child?”

If you have any questions about enrolling your child in our common cold study, you can call (205) 757-8208 to speak to one our pediatric research experts.

If your child qualifies, our clinical trial staff, which includes the principal investigator (PI) and clinical research coordinators, will explain the purpose of the study and all the requirements that you need to know about.

During a clinical trial, participants are expected to come to our research site for routine visits. The number of visits required will vary depending on the type of clinical trial we’re conducting. If you ever have any questions, you can talk to the PI or a member of the clinical research staff. Also, please note that you reserve the right to withdraw your child from the study at any point.

“It’s a very pleasant experience. The staff take care of you, and you get to relax, while helping people down the road. The most difficult part is the occasional need to get up early. I always feel protected and in control, knowing that I can stop anytime I need.”
